Description of the institution
The European Clinical Research Infrastructure Network (ECRIN, www.ecrin.org) is a sustainable, not-for-profit intergovernmental organisation that supports the conduct of multinational clinical trials in Europe by providing coordinated services from preparation to implementation. As of 2013, ECRIN has the legal status of a European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC).
Organised as a distributed infrastructure, ECRIN includes a Core Team based in Paris/France (headquarters), ECRIN European Correspondents working across Europe, as well as national networks of clinical trial units (CTUs) and/or clinical research centres (CRCs) – located at or affiliated to national universities and hospitals – that are the final service providers, coordinated by ECRIN, for ECRIN-supported clinical trials.
Within the TENSION project, ECRIN and its national partners will primarily provide support for clinical trial initiation and management in compliance with Good Clinical Practice and support regulatory submission to ethics committees and relevant authorities, on-site monitoring as well as local vigilance and local project management in the participating countries Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Norway, Sweden, and Slovakia (see WP1).
